Dear Quailcrest Homeowners,

Finally, we have some warmer weather signaling the start of summer! As we begin planning projects for our yards and home exteriors, the Quailcrest Homeowners Association would like to remind everyone of the importance of property maintenance. A well-kept neighborhood reflects community pride, protects property values, and helps our subdivision look its very best.

Here are a few simple reminders as we start the season:

• Lawn & Home Care: All residents should ensure that lawns are mowed regularly, landscaping is maintained, and home exteriors remain in good condition. Please be aware that the HOA will begin issuing warnings and fines to residents who do not comply with established maintenance guidelines.
• Architectural Changes: Any changes to exterior house paint colors or other architectural elements must have prior HOA Board approval.
• Trash & Recycling Cans: Trash cans must be kept out of sight except on collection days. Both City and HOA rules state that cans and any other curbside items must be removed within 24 hours after pickup.
• Drive Safely: Please drive slowly and keep a watchful eye out for children playing.
• Sidewalk Hazards: Walk carefully. Recent ground freezing and thawing cycles have created several tripping hazards on our sidewalks.
• Community Safety: We take immense pride in our diverse neighborhood. Please keep an eye out for one another, remain aware of your surroundings, and stay vigilant as you enter and exit the subdivision.
• Graduation: Lastly, congratulations to all of our graduating seniors!

Dear Neighbors,

I want to make you aware of a recent incident in Quailcrest in which an individual attempted to break into parked vehicles. In one case, a vehicle was stolen after a key fob had been left inside. I am sharing this so everyone can take a few precautions and stay alert.

Out of caution, please treat the above as a preliminary summary — we don't have all details confirmed, and we'll share updates from the Sheriff's Department as they become available.

In the meantime, we strongly encourage everyone to follow the "Lock, Hide, and Light" routine:

• Lock your doors and roll up windows every time you park, even for a few minutes.
• Hide valuables in the trunk or take them inside with you. Never leave a key fob in the vehicle.
• Light your parking area — park in well-lit, high-visibility spots and use exterior lighting at night.

Stay Alert

• Scan your surroundings before leaving or returning to your vehicle. Note any individuals lingering near cars or looking into windows.
• Avoid "window shopping" — even spare change, sunglasses, or an empty bag left in view can suggest to a thief that something valuable is hidden inside.
• Remove charging cables and device mounts — visible cords can signal that electronics may be stored in the vehicle.
• Keep only a copy of your registration in the car, with your home address blacked out, rather than the original document.

Safety Basics

• Confirm your doors are locked — press the lock button and check the door handle before walking away.
• Park in a locked garage, a driveway with motion-sensor lighting, or an area with regular foot traffic when possible.
• Consider visible deterrents such as a steering wheel lock or an active dash camera.
• If you notice anyone checking door handles or acting suspiciously, please contact the Sheriff's Department non-emergency line at 248-858-4950. For anything in progress or a genuine emergency, call 911.
